Strategic Health Programs

Consistent with Genentech's corporate mission to address significant unmet medical needs, the company's corporate contributions program provides charitable support to organizations working to help patients better understand and cope with their diseases. Genentech strategic health programs enhance disease education and awareness and ensure effective medical therapies reach patients.

Because Genentech is dedicated to giving everyone equal opportunity to potentially life-saving science, one of our major strategic health programs focuses on ensuring diverse representation in clinical trials. Through this program, Genentech is working with the Intercultural Cancer Center and the Baylor college of Medicine to identify strategies to improve the participation of minorities in clinical trials.

Each year Genentech works with advocates and disease education specialists to design educational tools that help patients cope with a range of diseases from breast cancer to asthma, in addition to the other disease areas in which Genentech is developing biotherapeutics.

For example, through the Strike Out Cancer® program, Genentech makes a donation to The Wellness Community for every strikeout thrown by a San Francisco Giants pitcher at home games. A partnership between The Wellness Community (TWC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free support, education and hope for all people affected by cancer, and Genentech, Strike Out Cancer is an education and awareness program designed to help those facing cancer seek out information and support as well as learn about new treatments, support networks and educational resources.
